General Information for Students

Titles and degrees
There are different academic titles and degrees in the Polish system of higher education, which should be interpreted as follows: Mgr (magister) - M.Sc. and its equivalents in other disciplines; Dr (doktor) - Ph.D. and its equivalents in other disciplines; Dr hab. (doktor habilitowany) - D.Sc. (a higher level doctoral degree). The highest academic title is Professor (profesor), which may be conferred on distinguished academics by the President of Poland.

Language of Instruction
At the Faculty of Chemistry NCU all classes are conducted in Polish. However, some selected courses may be taught in English.

Grading System
Grades are given from 2 to 5. The following system is used:
5 - very good (bardzo dobry)
4+ - good plus (dobry plus)
4 - good (dobry)
3+ - satisfactory plus (dostateczny plus)
3 - satisfactory (dostateczny)
2 - fail (niedostateczny)
Some courses, however, are not evaluated on such a marking scheme and for these a student may simply obtain zaliczenie which means that the course is approved.
